NORMAN HODGSON

We all celebrated at an award night in the newly opened club house, which was the old girder work from dean and chapter colliery wagon shed with the bricks being purchased by the people of ferryhill at 50p a brick . We had some great times in those days playing in the local derby’s against Spennymoor, Bishop Auckland, West Auckland and Shildon . Every Easter Sunday the players and the committee would play against men from the workingmen’s club in a fancy dress charity match And on Good Friday and Easter Monday we would play home and away games with Spennymoor. I have seen destruction derby’s, circus, horse jumping and an it’s a knockout held on the Darlington road ground.I have fond memories of playing for the juniors and turning out for the senior side although not as often as I would have wished, later playing for the Sunday team .It’s a shame the youth of today wont have similar memories of a once great part of community life in Ferryhill.

Those of you who made this all possible thank you. To those of you who allowed the demise of Ferryhill Athletic Football Club I hope you have time to reflect on the decisions made when you had the fate of a once great club in your hands . And to those of you who tried to resurrect this once proud club you deserve the thanks of the true football supporters of Ferryhill.
